I want to cover some cooking basics. Basics are easy when you have a mom like mine, but I understand that a lot of people don’t have a mom to call for green beans… and that’s the gap I want to fill.
How to cook simple green beans
(Southern style, not healthy, good with roast beef, and serves three people)
- 1 can of green beans
- 2 tbsp of butter/margarine (if you want to be healthy, I reckon you could use olive oil… never done it myself, but stranger things have happened)
- Salt, pepper to taste
- Pinch or so of sugar
Drain green beans, place in small pot, add water, add pinch of sugar (to get rid of brime taste), add butter, and place on medium. Once it starts to simmer, turn it down to low. Add salt and pepper. Stir. Taste. Tasting is the only way you win at cooking. Add more salt/pepper/sugar accordingly.
Be careful with sugar, if you put more than necessary you’ll have to pour out the water and start again. You don’t want sweet green beans. That’s pretty gross. Otherwise, enjoy!
