Long · articles & websites

Katie Allred has spent more than two decades at the intersection of faith, technology, and community. She built her first online community in 1999, a Harry Potter forum that grew to thousands of people around the world, and has been building community online ever since.

After managing web, email, and social media for a Nashville-area church as it grew from one campus to nine, she co-founded an online community for church communicators in 2015. It grew from a Facebook group into the largest community of its kind, with more than 35,000 members, before it was acquired in 2024. At a Fortune 500 tech company, she served as global lead for faith partnerships and then led community partnerships across North America. She also managed a creative community on Discord with more than 700,000 members.

Katie is the author of Church Communications: Methods and Marketing (B&H Academic, 2022), a textbook used at universities and seminaries, and co-author of AI Prompts for Church Leaders (2025) and Instagram Posts That Worked. She has taught at the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications since 2016 and holds an MA in Mass Communication from the University of Florida.

Today she is Head of Community at Public Democracy and the founder of Katie Allred Consulting and Allred Academy, where she helps churches, nonprofits, and mission-driven teams build real community and use AI in ways that free up time for people. Her philosophy: automate the temporary, invest in the eternal.
